Shichi-Go-San

Shichi-Go-San (七五三, literally "seven-five-three") is a traditional rite of passage and festival day in Japan for three and seven year-old girls and three and five year-old boys, held annually on November 15. The reason it's on the 15th is simply because 15 is a sum of 7+5+3, ha! As it is not a national holiday, it is normally observed on a close weekend and people go to shrines with their kids dressed up. We happened to be walking around the shrine in Kamakura one Saturday and realized lots of people were out for the celebration.

We even bumped into the line of a wedding ceremony.
